Someone searches for a hair salon near them, taps your listing, and gets a phone number. If you are with a client, that call goes unanswered and they scroll on to the next result. The Book online button exists to close that gap: it turns a listing into a booking without anyone picking up a phone.
Google does not add the button for you. It appears once you put a booking link on your profile, which takes about two minutes. Here is the whole process, including the parts that trip people up afterwards.

How do I add a Book online button to my Google Business Profile?
To add a Book online button to a Google Business Profile, you need a verified profile and a booking link. Sign in to Google with the account that manages the business, open your profile controls, choose Edit profile, and look for Booking, Appointment links or Appointments on the Business information screen. Paste the full booking link including https, then save. Google reviews profile edits before publishing them, so the button does not appear instantly. A Booklink booking link looks like https://bklnk.co.za/your-business and is shown on the Today page and under Branding in the sidebar. Google charges nothing for the button, and Booklink does not need a marketplace listing or a partner integration for the link to work.
Why does the booking button matter?
Google is where people search for a salon, a physio or a barber near them, and for many businesses the listing is the first page a new client sees. What happens on that listing decides whether they become a client or a missed call.
Three things change when the button is there:
- It removes the phone call. People searching at 21:00 do not want to phone. A button lets them book without waiting for you to be free.
- It captures the client at the moment of intent. The gap between deciding and doing is where bookings are lost. One tap closes it.
- It routes the booking into your diary, not your inbox. A booking made through the link lands in your calendar with the service, the time and the client’s details already attached.
How do you add the link?
The steps below follow the Booklink help article, add your booking link to Google.
Before you start you need two things: a verified Google Business Profile, created at business.google.com if you do not have one yet, and your booking link. In Booklink the link is on the Today page and under Branding in the sidebar, in the Booking link card. It looks like https://bklnk.co.za/your-slug.
- Open your Business Profile. Sign in to Google with the account that manages the business, then search for your business name on Google, or go to business.google.com. The profile controls appear above the search results.
- Choose Edit profile. On the Business information screen, look for Booking, Appointment links or Appointments. Google moves this around from time to time, so scroll if it is not immediately visible.
- Paste your booking link. Use the full address including
https://. If Google offers a list of booking providers, skip it and use the link field instead. - Save. Google may show the link as pending for a while. When it goes live, a Book online button appears on your listing in Search and Maps. Open your own listing to check.
What should the link point to?
Most businesses should use the main booking link, but there are two other options worth knowing.
- Your main booking link,
bklnk.co.za/your-business. The right default. It shows your whole menu with prices and durations, and it keeps working when you add or remove services. If you sell prepaid bundles through session packages, those appear on this page too, so the main link is the one that shows everything you sell. - A service direct link. Every service on the Offerings page has its own copy button, producing a link that takes the client straight to booking that service. Use it when the profile is genuinely about one thing, for example a mobile nail technician who offers a single treatment.
- A category link. If you group services into categories, open your own booking page, tap the category pill you want, and copy the URL from the address bar. Sharing that link opens the page already filtered.
Whichever you choose, remember the link is tied to your slug. If you change the slug under Branding, the old link stops working and the Google button leads clients to a dead page, so update the profile at the same time.
What do clients see when they tap it?
They land on your booking page, which is built mobile first because that is how a Google search on a phone ends. There is no login and no app to install. They pick a service, a team member if you offer a choice, and a time slot drawn from real availability, then enter their contact details and confirm.
If you take deposits, the payment step comes before confirmation, and the slot is only held once the gateway reports a successful payment. The client gets a confirmation email with links to cancel or reschedule themselves.
Keep the profile and the booking page consistent
The button is only half the job. The listing and the booking page are read together, and a mismatch between them costs you the booking you just earned.
- Name. Use the same trading name in both places. A client who taps “Book online” on one name and arrives at another assumes they clicked the wrong thing.
- Address. If Google shows a suburb and your booking page shows a different one, expect no-shows and phone calls. Update both when you move.
- Hours. This one bites hardest. Google shows opening hours from your profile, but the times a client can actually book come from your working hours in Booklink. If Google says you are open until 18:00 and your last bookable slot is 16:00, the listing is writing cheques the booking page will not honour. Fix it in whichever place is wrong, and check both after seasonal changes.
- Holidays. Block public holidays and leave in Booklink and mark them on the profile, so neither surface offers a day you are not working.
Where else should the link live?
The booking link is not a Google-only asset. It works anywhere a client already looks for you.
- WhatsApp. Add it to your WhatsApp Business profile and paste it in replies to enquiries. It turns a “what times do you have?” thread into a booking instead of a back and forth about slots.
- Instagram bio. One tap from your profile. Use a service direct link when a post is about a specific treatment.
- A QR code. Any free QR code generator turns the link into a code you can print on the reception desk card, a price list or a flyer. Scan, book, done.
- Email signature and Facebook. Low effort, and they cost nothing to add once.
FAQs
Does Google charge for the booking button?
No. A Google Business Profile is free, and adding an appointment link to it costs nothing. The only cost involved is your booking system, which for Booklink is a free plan covering 1 service, 1 team member and 30 bookings a month, or Pro at R79 a month.
Can I use a Booklink link on Google?
Yes. Paste your Booklink booking link into the appointment or booking link field on your profile, including the https part. You do not need a marketplace listing or a partner integration. If Google offers a list of booking providers to pick from, skip it and use the link field.
Why does my Book online button not show yet?
Google reviews profile edits before publishing them, so a new booking link does not appear instantly. If it still has not shown after a few days, open Edit profile again and check the link saved correctly and includes https. It is also worth opening your own listing on a phone, since the button placement differs between Search and Maps.
Should the button open my whole menu or one service?
The main booking link is the better default, because it shows everything you offer and keeps working when your service list changes. Use a service direct link when the listing is genuinely about one treatment, or when a specific service is the reason people find you.
What happens if I change my booking slug?
The old link stops working, so the Google button would lead clients to a dead page. Change the slug under Branding and update the appointment link on your Business Profile in the same sitting, along with any other place you have shared it.
